According to several posts around the Internet, especially VG247 who have done a fair share of Sherlock Holmes type investigating, more information has been released regarding Sony’s next little powerhouse portable.
Last week, MCV suggested that Sony “could” potentially announce the PSP2 at next months upcoming E3 event. But since then VG247 have done some digging, and it is almost certain (99 percent they say) that the PSP2 will not be revealed at E3.
Amongst the rumors, many British sources have confirmed that PSP2 NDA’s have been popping up in publishers and developers hands for many months.
Specifications and features of the device are also making the rounds, and it seems that Sony are aiming to follow in Nintendo’s footsteps by adding a touch-screen, and two cameras to the next-gen handheld. One at the front, and one at the back. And the trademark Sony-styled buttons are still to remain on the device, apparently.
Physical media is also a thing of the past it seems, as the PSP2 is scheduled to be completely 3G-enabled, much like the PSP GO, which was entirely WiFi-only. Something that didn’t quite work out for them.
Also, a late 2010 release has been indicated in the past, but now a 2011 time-frame is more than likely, with an announcement expected now to be at a gamescom or TGS event early next year.
Sources are also suggesting that games are already in production for some of the “finished units” currently available in the UK. Yet again this is all rumors, but one source who has apparently got their hands on a unit says that the device is “f***ing powerful!” Being based on a four-core Cell CPU, that is half of what the PS3 runs on.
Remember this is all speculation, so don’t take this as Gods word. But one thing you can do is keep a close eye on E3 and Sony’s E3 press conference which takes place on June 15.
