Following our recent reports on the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, things have not got any better despite recent efforts by BP. Today BP has released a video showing the oil gushing out into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of 5,000 barrels a day.
The video shows oil streaming out from a break in a yellow pipe, and turning lighter as it mixes with natural gas. The BP engineers have lowered another container called a “top hat” on the sea bed to hopefully begin to capture the oil.
BP hopes to plug the leak by the end of next week by pumping materials like shredded tyres into the well at high pressure. They have also started to drill a relief well but this could take up to 80 days to finish. Head over to the BBC website for more on this story and to view the video.
