Nintendo Wii Online: Would you pay monthly fees or not?

Some potentially worrying news for Nintendo Wii owners to read now, as it has been reported that Nintendo are planning to explore the possibility of monthly subscription fees for their online services.
As reported from Play.TM, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke in a recent interview with Edge, in which he discussed possible ideas for a premium service on the Nintendo Wii.
Part of his interview reads: “Probably the other thing that we are desperate to realise is the core [online] business structure. Do we need to demand customers pay monthly fees to enjoy online activities? Or give an online subscription that is free of charge, but then offer something extra for people that pay, so that they get some extra value?”
It seems as if they are going down the Sony route and mulling over possibilities of introducing a paid service for their customers, in return for a more ‘premium’ service.
What are your thoughts on this? You are probably thinking that this is a terrible idea for Nintendo, but there may be some of you willing to invest in this, depending on what Nintendo offer in the way of extra features.
