Sprint HTC Hero: 2.1 Android Update – New Release Date

By Alan Ng - May 5, 2010

For those of you that are still interested, it looks like we finally have a solid release date for the HTC Hero update to Android 2.1. After all the delays though – are you still bothered about this?

As reported from Examiner, a fresh image leak from Best Buy has revealed that the update will be landing on May 7th – which is this Friday. You can read details from the image here to see for yourself.

You also should be aware that the 2.1 update won’t be available OTA. You’ll instead have to download it from the HTC website, but that shouldn’t be a problem for most of you.

No official word from Sprint or HTC yet, but this looks like the real thing guys. Let us know your thoughts on this. Any of you still desperate for the 2.1 update?

its bs if u read the whole email it states on the bottom that its for the unlocked htc phones only not sprint they failed to show the updated email

  • greg

look everyone we may as well wait on the HTC Evo which is a month later

  • acehero

I hope all of the people on here and everywhere else that are threatening to leave sprint due to no update get hit with a huge discconect fee. It will come out when it comes out and not before. So suck it up and wait or root your phone.

It’s not sprint that releases the update its HTC they have o take it and make sure its works right for each phone. And you can switch to Verizon but the eris is still waiting for the update from HTC too.

This is the only thing that will keep me with Sprint. No upgrade on Friday, and I'm outta here!!! Hello Verizon Wireless…

I'm going to laugh if you switch to Verizon, and then it rolls out on Monday. Have fun paying higher prices!

At this point, we've all been conditioned to roll our eyes at "solid release dates."

And I’m sure I will be the person to constantly look for the update on Friday :P. Oh well. At least I’m being positive.

I can't say it's all bs… Sprint has great service, for me anyway. Since I have heard about this update I've been waiting like crazy, and every blog just set me up for the let down. If it comes on fri, great, if not, oh well. This news didn't come from sprint or htc anyway. Not say'n this site is not right, just say'n it's not sprint or htc site.
