Copilot Live HD: Available for iPad 3G

By Updated on

A live GPS navigation app has just been released in time to be available for the launch of the iPad 3G. Copilot Live HD North America is a high resolution edition of the developer’s award-winning CoPilot Live GPS navigation app.

Released by ALK Technologies, the app turns the Apple iPad 3G into a turn-by-turn voice navigation unit that has beautiful graphics on the devices large screen. The app comes with a split screen display that combines uncluttered 3D or 2D map. The new HD version auto-switches between landscape and portrait view, with pinch-zoom functionality.

The 3D version of the app has detailed street level maps of the U.S. and Canada, which are stored directly on the device, so users do not have to worry about being in a 3G dead spot when needing directions. A trip planning and route preview option allows users to completely plan door-to-door itineraries before they start their journeys.

As the Apple iPad 3G is launched worldwide more apps for additional regions will be released. Multiple stops for a single journey with the most fuel efficient route can be calculated. CoPilot Live HD North America is on the App Store for only $29.99. iPad with OS 3.2 or later required.

I just Purchased CoPilot for ipad + G3. In my location West Jordan the maps are not detailed. The location it showed for my house was not on my street. It showed on a gravel lane east of my house that was abondoned 6 years ago due to new construction.

Some one trying to find my house from the location shown would have to back track and find it on their own. I input my sons house address. CoPilot gave me several choices of addresses East or West of where my sons house was. If I had not been familiar with the location, so I knew what to input, I could have been steered a mile or more from his house. I will use Google Maps to find my destination before traveling.

I have not taken my ipad on a trip yet,so do not know how the CoPilot directions will be. It did show a route from West Jordan, Utah to Jackson, Wyoming. It did show some dirt roads near Vernon, Utah but they were not labeled. If you zoomed out enough to see a larger area to locate the vicinity you were in, the roads disapeared. Again Google maps is much better for locating a destination.
