Auto China 2010: Volkswagen’s Electric Bik.e

By Posted 30 Apr 2010, 12:21

With the environment always in the news car manufactures are constantly coming out with new ways to be greener. Volkswagen has just showcased their first ever two wheeler at the AutoChina 2010 show. The VW bik.e(not a typing error) was rode with ease on the stage by V-Dub research and development Chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg.

The two wheeled battery-powered device looks like a small bicycle but without the pedals, folds down into a flat disc that can be stored in the spare tire compartment found in the bottom of most trunks. While this device looks like a concept vehicle, VW actually plan to commercially sell it in the not too distant future.

VW bik.e official top speed is 20 km/h with a range of 20 kilometers, with this top speed it would allow Germans to ride the device without wearing a helmet. Batteries can be charged by a typical AC plug, as well as a cars DC current, but there was no mention of how long it would take for a full charge. VW see’s the bik.e ideal for commuting around town once you have parked the car.
