A lot of new news is coming from the Blizzard camp regarding changes that will be taking place in Cataclysm, and with Blizzard dropping the bombshell yesterday that they were combining the loot tables and raid lockouts for both 10- and 25-man raids, they have also released a statement which states that they are to be getting rid of badges for good.

No longer will players receive badges for defeating bosses in raids and heroics, as Blizzard have said that everything in Cataclysm will be based on points. This goes for PVE and PVP gear, and will come in four different types. Two for PVE and two for PVP.

Hero points, and Valor points will be the points earned by players to purchase their raid tier gear, with Hero points being the low end tiers and Valor being the high end. Honor points will remain for PVP players, but only as the lower end tiers with Conquest points coming in for the higher tiers, much like how arena points are earned in today’s state of play.

Blizzard have also stated that they intend to put a cap on how many points you can earn in one single week, but this only goes on a point type basis, and they also say that personal ratings will be removed from almost all items.
