Android 2.2 Froyo: MyTouch 3G shows Auto App Updates

By Updated on

After months of lurking in the shadows, the Android 2.2-related news is really in full flow right now. We have a couple of screenshots to show you now, which appear to show a MyTouch 3G handset running Android 2.2 Froyo.

As reported from Phandroid, the screenshots have come from a user called 4chan who claims to be an ‘Android trusted tester’. He has released two screenshots – which are particularly interesting.

The first is taken from the settings menu of a MyTouch 3G which displays that the Android firmware is ’2.2′, while the second image appears to hint that one of the main features of the software will be automatic updates for apps.

If the screenshots are real, then obviously this is a huge deal. Imagine never having to update Google Maps again, or your favorite app being updated the next time you turn on your phone. Then again we shouldn’t get our hopes up too much, since these images could have been photoshopped. Either way, it poses some interesting ideas ahead for Android 2.2 Froyo.

Let us know your thoughts on this.

wow, if I get 2.2 first I may feel a little silly about all the complaining I have done about not getting 2.0….but my luck Verizon will get it first…thats what I get for being a loyal G1/mytouch user (when I broke my G1 I bought a mytouch)

If you have been pining for Eclair, Haven´t you considered installing cyanogenmod Eclair 2.1? Works a treat on my HTC Magic (PVT32A). Stable version out yesterday :)

i doubt verizon will see it first since they currently have very few phones and it should be the nexus one in which receives any thing before anyone but i have seen many weird things happen

I've been waiting so long for an update and to be honest, part of me never actually believed the Mytouch 3G would get Eclair or Froyo. Seriously, with the amount of android phones coming out every other month I figured t-mobile gave up on the Mytouch haha. They said we'd (as in fellow MT3G users) get 2.1, noted two months ago. I hope t-mobile actually puts this out and not hold off until gingerbread… thus making my sweet $200 smartphone as intelligent as a paperweight.
