Gran Turismo 5 (PS3): Boss not happy with final product

By Posted 21 Apr 2010, 15:52

We have some interesting comments from Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi to share with you now, as he has revealed that he won’t be entirely happy once Gran Turismo 5 is released on the PS3.

As reported from VG247, the big man was speaking in a recent interview with PSM3 and stated that the game’s final release would result in mixed emotions for him.

He explained: “I’d probably be relieved [to finish development] in terms of having fulfilled my responsibilities, but I may be angry at the same time. I’m never fully satisfied with what I create.”

I guess you are not the only one whos angry, Kaz. We still don’t have a confirmed release date for the game, although it has been promised to be landing before the end of the year – meaning that it is likely something will happen at E3 in June.

Give us your thoughts on this. How can he not be happy with a product that has been in development since, well forever?

I don't think it's anything to do with GT5 being in development for so long, I think it's because artists are never truly satisfied with the work as from the moment it's released they will always find things they could have done better.

As Mike Portnoy once said: "An artists work is never truly finished, only abandoned" so as long as there are deadlines, people will rarley love what they create.

Gonna stop preaching now coz it ain't really my style haha

Indeed Sir. Thought it was perfect for this article.

Absolutely agree. People do not understand how artists strive for perfection of work they're doing. This just shows Kazunori is a true perfectionist, and u know what, good for him. People should have patience, there are so many other games out there, play them. Stop moaning that it will never be realeased. Let Sir Kazunori decide when he is happy with the game, then he will release it. How about people getting that he just wants to give u a game that is worth £40, that's not a bad thing, right?

All I have to say, is it better be an excellent game. The controls better feel good, and I hope they have an option of arcade mode and sim mode. It would be nice to add nascar to the game also. I hope this game gets a 10 out of 10 and gets a game of the year award. I feel good about the game so don't sweat it too much boss:) Just keep in mind that if you screw this up you will dissapoint me and other ps3 fans. And keep it a ps3 exclusive or else I will snap.

jeez….nascar will be add to the game…and this was announced a couple weeks ago…Maybe you are not a truly GT5 fan

Obviously because he's a perfectionist. If you can't understand that and get angry about silly things like release dates, then you have no appreciation or understanding for perfectionism on a whole. Any piece of work from Mr. Yamauchi or Mr. Ueda or the like, is worth more that what the blockbuster developers offer alongside.

Stop bothering Mr. Yamauchi and learn to appreciate a masterpiece that is well hated by the master…a normal practise even by me.

BTW, the wait is better than what 'normal' people would do; which is to cut time by making use of payable DLC, which folks beg for (how stupid can you get?)…and the devs are happy to get extra money, since they charge you the same $60 per disc.
