God of War 3: Responsible for PS3′s Improved Game Marketshare

By Updated on

Recently Gamasutra took a look at the latest NPD results, and from what they found it looked as if the PS3′s share of the U.S. retail game market increased massively when comparing March 2009 with March 2010.

In March 2009 the PS3 was said to account around 25% of the market, however March 2010 figures are closer to 41%, a big part of the success is said to be the release of the very impressive God of War III.

In March 2010 seven PS3 titles featured in the top 20 list, this shows that Sony’s PS3 is finally hitting the sort of marketshare that they probably expected when they initially launched the PS3, another reason for the improved marketshare is the competitively priced PS3 Slim which launched in September 2009.

Recently there have been quite a few successful PS3 exclusives launched which have probably had a great deal to do with the consoles recent growth, titles such as the previously mentioned God of War III, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, MAG and Heavy Rain have greatly boosted sales, along with multi-platform games such as Assassin’s Creed II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, its a shame for Sony that Splinter Cell: Conviction is an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Many believe that the real competition will start later this year, with Sony launching their ‘Move’ motion controller and Microsoft launching Project Natal I am sure next year’s figures will be heavily impacted by this, for more details check out the link below.
