Twitter’s Promoted Tweets: New Revenue Model

It has been reported that Twitter are planning to announce ‘Promoted Tweets’ – the company’s venture into a new revenue model for the social networking website.

As reported from BGR, companies will be able to purchase or bid for ‘keywords’. If they are successful, they’ll then be able to place their advertisements into related user search results.

Twitter will be operating ‘Promoted Tweets’ on a CPM (charging per 1,000 unique views) basis at the beginning, although this could be changed to another system in the future, depending on how the public reacts.

Companies signed up for the service so far include Best Buy, Starbucks, Virgin America and Bravo. Let us know your thoughts on this. We’ll update you when we know more.
