WiMAX 2 Support from Intel, Motorola and Samsung

We still have a while to go until the IEEE makes its decision as to what the new standard for the 802.16m version of WiMAX will be. In anticipation of this, a few companies have already offered their support for what will be known as WiMAX 2– Intel, Motorola, and Samsung amongst others.

According to Businesswire, these companies will make certain that WiMAX 2 will be able to compete with the likes of LTE – this is the 4G standard that AT&T and Verizon will be using. Sprint currently works with Clearwater and favor WiMAX as its mobile broadband standard, but is still keeping its options open.

Sprint has said that they will issue detailed reports and delivery schedules in the coming months. The network carrier hopes to have its WiMAX technology in all of its production models by 2011. This will be at least 1-2 years early that LTE.
