HTC EVO LTE: Verizon’s answer to iPhone 4G?

Some interesting news to bring you now, as it has been rumored that Verizon could be planning to release the HTC EVO on their network, meaning that it will be available on their upcoming 4G LTE speeds.

According to this report from WirelessWeek, Verizon has made it clear that their first LTE-compatible handset wont be available until 2011, so this rumor has come very early it seems.

If there is any truth to it though, the EVO would prove to be a interesting addition to Verizon’s smartphone lineup. With the HTC EVO soon to be available on Sprint’s WiMax network, it seems like the focus is now solely on Apple and what they decide to deliver to the world this Summer.

We have been hearing a lot of rumors about a CDMA iPhone on Verizon this week, but if the HTC EVO lands instead, would it even matter if the iPhone doesnt?

    I want the EVO – but it will be more appealing on the Verizon network than Sprint!

    Why? Sprint has cheaper data plans and a more reliable network.

    This is the stupidest rumor I've ever heard. Verizon said that their first 4G phone is coming in 2011 at the earliest. By then the EVO 4G will already be obsolete. If anyone here's been following Qualcomms progress, their already developing a 1.3GHZ snapdragon and a 1.5GHZ Dual core processor expected to be in phones by the end of 2010. By then a 1GHZ snapdragon will not have the state of the art appeal that it has today.

      I was thinking the same thing. Unless it is an upgraded version of the phone, then this rumor is pretty stupid. The phone will have already been out for a year or so by the time LTE is ready.

    Verizon should release the EVO. Not spend crazy advertising dollars on it though, let Sprint do that work. Just release the phone. The lack of 4G doesn’t mean the phone is useless on their network.

    Besides, bank on the people that want that phone now but love Verizon’s network. By the time Verizon gets LTE you will have all the people that already have EVO happy to have new 4G+ capabilities (and whatever Android software updates are out by then) PLUS the new subscribers coming for new 4G phones AND LTE.

    I would rather have the HTC EVO than the iphone. It has a better screen and operating system. You can also change the battery without sending it of to the wizard of oz.
    I have played with both phones. The HTC is as user friendly as the apple iphone.
    That was apples strong suite before HTC.
