World Champion Cheese: 2010 Winners Are?
By: Peter Chubb | March 19, 2010 | Leave a CommentYesterday saw the conclusion of the 010 World Championship Cheese Contest and we are happy to inform you that a Madison cheese producer was picked as the winner. The New York Times has a list of the three top finishers along with all the details of the winning cheese producer in 79 categories.
Cheese makers from Switzerland and Austria were among those taking the top honors, this was a huge achievement as they fought off 2,300 entries from 20 countries around the world. The top cheese was a Gruyere, as it was found to have a creamy texture and lightly flavored with herbs.
Most of the judges agreed that the cheese had a clean flavor that bursts in your mouth. Not sure how anyone can get so exited about cheese, but who are we to judge.
The contest started back in 1957, by 1980 there were just 212 entries, today there are 2,318, and that number is climbing each year.
