There were many reports that cell phone carriers such as Verizon would have a 4G ready handset this year, but we have now heard that the first cell phone working on the Verizon LTE network will be sometime in the middle of 2011 – but will it be the iPhone 5G?

Verizon 4G (LTE) Handset in 2011: Maybe iPhone 5G

Please do not be confused by what we mean by 5G, we know or assume that the iPhone 4G will be launched this year – this only means that it is the 4th-generation version of the Apple smartphone. The 5G will be the 5th-generation and there are many indications that Verizon will have it.

We had hoped to see a Verizon iPhone in 2010, this is looking less likely – but an iPhone running on a 4G network will be very welcome. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and is the next step in offering fast wireless mobile data – some markets will get this new technology by the end of the year.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal explains that LTE is very-much needed, lets just hope that they get it right – we do not want the same trouble as we get with 3G.
