The Google Fiber race is well under way and more than 200 Facebook groups are fighting to get it in their communities in the U.S. The latest to enter is Sarasota – joining the likes of Detroit, Las Vegas, and Boise, Idaho. Sarasota is that dedicated to getting Google Fiber that they have renamed City Island -Google Island.

Facebook Groups Dedicated to Google Fiber

Just last week Topeka, Kansas renamed itself – Google, Kansas. This interest all started last month when Google announced that they were to build an ultra-fast high-speed broadband – offering speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. The search engine giant asked local governments and residents to nominate their communities.

Google is offering the service for 50,000 to 500,000 people, as you can imagine – response has been huge. For those of you in live in the Sarasota area then you should join the “I Want Google Fiber in Sarasota” Facebook group. For more details on this visit PC World.
