When we first learned that Apple was to delay the launch of its iPad we had assumed that it was to do with the hardware, we would never have imaged that it was to do with its iPhone OS software. The manufacturers were quick to announce that they were on track, so what is the problem with the operating system?
The Inquirer reports that Daring Fireball’s John Gruber said that the completion of the iPad software has taken much longer than expected – something to do with the timing of turning out the software. However, we should not read too much into this – what is a delay of a couple of weeks?
We do wonder why Apple has this problem with the software, an upgrade to the iPhone OS is considered a basic feature compared to the hardware side of things. Apple could just be playing it safe – we do not want a repeat of the Mac OS X Snow Leopard problems. It is not good business to release an OS only to issue a number of patches shortly after.
