Weight loss is big business at the moment, this can clearly been seen by the hundreds of hacked Twitter accounts that have been Tweeting about weight loss. We are all used to spam emails about such things, but it has now broken into social media as well now. This backs up the theory that hackers will be able to spam easier since Twitter search engine integration
Hacked accounts is now a very serious problem, with users having to read Tweets such as “I lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks!” these then link to diet websites. According to Mashable, the last count of these Tweets were more than 200, that figure grows as we speak.
These hacks do not care what user they attack, new old or famous, such as tech pundit John C. Dvorak. As you would expect he was not happy – we are still not sure how this has happened.
Mashable explains the many ways that this could have been done; the most plausible is that a third-party app has been installed. Just remember one thing, if you get sent these Tweets do not click on the links.
