General Motors: 1.3 million recall for Chevy, Pontiac motors over steering issue

It has been reported that car giant General Motors has had to recall around 1.3 million motors, due to a problem relating to powering steering in certain models.

As reported from DetNews, affected models include the 2005-2010 Chevy Cobalts, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5s, 2005 and 2006 Pontiac Pursuit models and finally, the Pontiac G4 as well.

General Motors state that the recall will help them to replace defective power steering motors, which the company say are ‘prone to failure’.

However, an estimated time of fix has not yet been announced by GM, instead they state that they will be informing car owners in due time. Until that happens, they have advised owners with affected models to drive under 15mph.

    Where are the hearings? Why did it take so long for GM to acknowledge if the facts are the same in both cases?

    THE PONTIAC G6'S ALSO HAD POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. ONE ARTICLE MENTIONED THE VEHICLES COULD BE OPERATED EVEN WHEN THE POWER STEERING "GOES OUT." THAT IS TOTALLY NOT TRUE. I HAD A G6 AND IT WAS INOPERABLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THE CAR HAD TO BE TURNED OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON, THE SITUATION MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN "FIXED" UPON RESTARTING THE ENGINE. THE WHEEL WOULD JUST COMPLETELY LOCK UP. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, ALL TO NO AVAIL. I KNOW I BEGAN COMPLAINING LAST YEAR WHEN MY POWER STEERING FIRST WENT OUT. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MADE WITHOUT A POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, ITS ELECTRICAL. GM KNEW OF THE POWER STEERING FAILURE AND TOOK NO COURSE OF ACTION FOR YEARS UNTIL KNOW.

    I'm still a little confused I can't find a definitive yes or no…is there a recall on the power steering for Pontiac G6's? And yes this problem is really irritating and very unsafe.

    My car is a G5 and i have complained many many time about this! My dealership ran a test on my car and told me it was because i was buying cheap gas!!!!! So all this time i have used premium, and still losing power in my car and now i get this letter in the mail!!!

    I have a 2006 Pontiac G-6 and the electric power steering motor went out. It is now costing me 570.00 to replace that because the recall dosen't include the 2006 models. HOGWASH!!!!!!

    I own a pontaic 2005 G-6 and my power steering gets real tight .i cant get out of a paralell parking space. ive had the dealer check it they said nothing wrong. my breaks paulsate when i have weight in the car or its hot outside ,mostly when going down a hill! the front end shakes bad! had my breaks checked quite a few times they said nothings wrong ,pads are wearing fine and even rotors are good.whats up GM .!!!!!!!!!

    My 2006 G6 has had two front and rear brake replacements plus rotors and only 80,000 kms on it. Senior senior with fixed income and live off my pension. Not whining but am very disappointed that a company will not acknowledge a problem. Will pursue further but wonder if anyone else has had brake problems
