Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx: Brief Review

By Updated on

If you have been toying with the idea of buying “The Secret Armory of General Knoxx” DLC for Borderlands you may want to check out JoyStiq’s recent brief review, this should help you decide whether or not to buy the DLC for your PC, PS3 or Xbox 360.

JoyStiq’s editor states that he has only tried out the DLC for around 4 hours, therefore it is a bit of a snap judgment, all in all he seems happy with the DLC, however it is said to be pretty difficult.

Also See: Borderlands 3 desired, release unknown

He was shocked that his level 50 character was struggling so much with the opposition, therefore had to re-think his tactics and take out the opposition one at a time.

This DLC isn't funny, I had a level 50 soldier with gear I thought was good, I certainly had no difficulty finishing the game with it.

But now, I encounter level 51 badasses that seems to pop up out of nowhere. At my current location, I encuntered 5 lance rocketeers, flying bastards, 2 of which was labelled as "badass", and even the normal guys take me from full shield and health down to 1% health and no shield in 3 rockets, which takes about 1.5 seconds for them to fire. Count 3 such + 2 badasses and you can imagine how long that fight lasted.

So I ressed, only to find that I'm ressing right beneath them, so about 2 seconds later, I'm dead again… and again… and again… until I just exit.

A game is supposed to be fun to play, I thought we had dispenses with the "so difficulty you feel like you killed a mountain when you have progress" type of games about 5 years ago.

    Turns out I was wrong.

This DLC goes back to the harddisk for my sake. They took a fun game, and reduced it to mind-boring try-kill-try type of gameplay. That's not how I imagined they would add longevity to the game.

Again, turns out I was wrong.

I'm loading up Bioshock 2 and will try to forget this DLC, along with the previous one, the endless arena matches. Looks like Gearbox knew how to make one good game, and is now struggling to come up with ideas worth implementing.

My what a joke this "comment" system is. I wrote a long comment, then fill in my openid-account, and not only did it forget my comment, but it didn't log me in either.

    Yay.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, this DLC is way too difficult to be funny. Gearbox made a great game, but is apparently now struggling with adding longevity to it by adding mindless grindfest DLC's like the previous arena-suckage and now the endless die-retry-die DLC that is the secret armory.

Stay clear, it isn't worth your money and certainly won't be worth the time you need to put into it.

Maybe you should be better at games?

Maybe you should get out more…

I hate it when a game is crazy hard, someone complains and the same old idiots come out claiming that it's because they're not good enough.

The problem isnt just Caustic vs. Armor for the win. The flying drones have shields that you HAVE to use electric on, the pyro guys are resistant to pretty much all but caustic, and Ive found fire to work best on most of the rest of the enemies. It is definitely a challenge to have to switch weapons in the middle of the fight just to be able to hurt the multiple different foes. I think its great that its more difficult, but it will definitely come as a shock to those who have beaten the game. It is WAY more difficult than the base game and will require a lot of patience, cunning, and intelligence as opposed to just SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT. But still fun for the avid BL fan.

Finally they put some amount of challange into this game.
    I'm now level 61.
I had no problem finishing the game on playthrough 2.
I am now looking for a team to kill Crawmerax the Invincible seeing as you need a team of at least 3 to kill him. Gamertag is Intamasica if anybody wants team up. Currently have 2 people. looking for a 3rd, maybe 4th.
This may be the last DLC they bring out for this game but i sure hope not.

funny… i thoght the original game was far to easy… but wen i played this DLC its was WAAAAAAY above hard. Actualy it was unplayable, leaving me to conclude the game is just not meant to be played alone, just on co-op.

Just what GearBox have againt, you know: ***DIFFICULTY LEVELS***.. all games have that this days…

    sorry for bad english xD

Actually, I thought the main game was too easy, and the Armory add-on was more reasonable. In either case, the 2nd playthrough is much rougher. I didn't think any of it was too hard, you must be a noob or unused to FPS games to call this "too hard." Crawmerax, now that was a real challenge . . . Armory was a wonderful expansion to the main game both in terms of quality and quantity of content

There we go again with the noob calling. Some people like you just like to act all elitist on the internet don’t you? I have been playing fps for the last 10 years and even I will admit the DLC is too hard. I literally breezed through the main game effortlessly and yet I can’t stop dying in the DLC no matter what strategy I use.
I can easily act like a gaming god on the internet too but what’s the point? Gearbox took the fun element out of this game in the DLC by raising the difficulty to ridiculous levels. There is no balance at all. Instead of putting in actual game content in the DLC to prolong its longevity, they decided to make it a grindfest to prolong play time.

And please some of us just play games for the fun of it in our off time because we got other work to do as well. If you are some professional gamer or nerd with no work to do, then I guess its not a problem for you.
