AT&T and Orange: Microsoft’s “Premier Partners” for Windows Phone 7

By Jamie Pert - Feb 16, 2010

Yesterday at MWC 2010 Microsoft revealed more details regarding Windows Phone 7, we are now hearing details regarding Microsoft’s preferred carriers for the new platform.

Apparently Windows Phone 7 will be launching on four U.S. carriers, however AT&T are Microsoft’s preferred U.S. carrier, their preferred UK carrier is Orange.

Apparently AT&T and Orange are “premier partners”, this should mean that Windows Phone 7 handsets will be available from these carriers first.

AT&T seem very happy to be one of Microsoft’s “premier partners”, their chief marketing officer stated “At AT&T we can’t wait to get Windows Phone in the market”.

PC Magazine contacted the four U.S. carriers about this recent revelation, all carriers responded apart form Verizon Wireless, perhaps they are frustrated with this news.

Given the rumors surrounding a Verzion iPhone I am surprised that Microsoft didn’t perhaps back Verizon to directly compete with Apple’s AT&T iPhone, did this surprise you?
