iPhone 4G: Verizon and AT&T, save lives with location sharing

By Updated on

The next iPhone (4G), whether on Verizon or AT&T may be able to help save lives in more ways than just being able to make a phone call. Future Apple iPhones might be able to share your current location during a call.

Imagine being able to share your location with just the push of a button, what could this mean for you? One situation could be in emergencies, like a car crash or when you need to give exact details of where you are.

I remember watching an accident and emergency TV program once, which showed emergency services looking for someone who made a phone call reporting they had crashed a car, and was stuck. It took them a long time to find the person because they were in the middle of nowhere, imagine if they had a phone that could have shared their location?

The iPhones assisted GPS can show users their location, but being able to push a button and share your current location during a phone call would make it much more simple. There are many reasons why you would want to share your current location with another person.

Apple Insider is reporting that a new Apple patent application has been revealed this week, which seems to hint that this feature will be on iPhones in the future. You can view images of this application here, and notes that give more details.

Would you want to share your location with people on a call? Obviously this would be a trusted user only.
