Office 2010: Should businesses upgrade? Pros and cons

Microsoft Office 2010 is all set to launch in June this year, therefore network administrators will be weighing up the odds as to whether or not to upgrade computers to Office 2010.

Currently there are three Office versions installed on many of today’s computers, these are Office 2000, Office 2003 and Office 2007, a lot of users will be more than happy with the functionality offered in these Office versions, so why upgrade?

There are a quite a few pros which Office 2010 offers, one major pro is the addition of the SharePoint Workspace, this will allow secure sharing and editing of SharePoint content both online and offline.

There are also a lot of new features offered in 2010, most of these new features include interface improvements, one notable change is that the applications are 64-bit applications, therefore utilize more data and memory allowing larger Excel wordbooks.

One problem with Office 2010 64-bit is that there will not be a way to move secure databases from 32-bit editions to 64-bit editions. One other disadvantage is that if your business uses Visual Basic applications these may not be compatible new new model used in Office 2010. For further details check out CIO.
