Google Ends China Censorship: What’s next?

We have recently heard the massive news that Google have pulled the plug on censoring China’s search results, this is said to be “a response to surveillance by the state”.

It is thought that this may lead to Google being kicked out of China altogether, however it is too early to say anything definite.

In 2006 Google.cn was launched, at the time Google stated “”we will carefully monitor conditions in China, including new laws and other restrictions on our services. If we determine that we are unable to achieve the objectives outlined we will not hesitate to reconsider our approach to China.”

It now seems that Google have had to ‘reconsider their approach’ as the country has now further limited free speech on the web.
