Apple’s App Store was launched in 2008, and back then users or developers did not have any idea how popular it would become. We were surprised to learn that one developer generates $1 millions worth of app sales per month, this is according to a recent Reuters reports.
The news that “Tap Tap Revenge” developer Tapulous is generating this kind of revenue from this and other apps will certainly be food-for-thought for other app developers. Many are only scrapping a living, so how has Tapulous made such a success of things?
Tapulous only employ 20 people and earn $1 million each month by just offering apps for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, something that we would never have imaged a year ago. The reason why this figure is so high is simple, more than one-third of all App Store users have installed Tap Tap Revenge.
Apple are not doing too bad with this deal, with its 70/30 split the iPhone maker is earning $400,000 per month from this one developer. This shows that the current recession has not hit the highly profitable app market, and there are no signs of a slowdown.
We have to point out that this is a rare case; there are hundreds if not thousands of developers who are struggling to make any sort of profit. It is all down to developing an app that users will want to play and will find useful, Tap Tap Revenge certainly falls into that category.
