BlackBerry Outage December 2009: Were you affected?

Another month, another BlackBerry Outage to tell you about. The latest outage, which has affected users across America has already been acknowledged by RIM (Research In Motion), who say that it is their fault, and not the carriers.

As reported from SoftSailor, BlackBerry users have been experiencing problems with the BlackBerry Internet Service, more specifically – receiving emails and problems with other other data services.

It is thought that RIM are now working hard to fix the issue, but an estimated timeframe has not been released, while we don’t know if the problem is just affecting Sprint customers or not.

To all the BlackBerry users out there – let us know if the problem is still affecting you in your area, or if the problem has now been fixed.

    Not yet fixed for me, however I can now send emails, but not receive. I have a NYC phone number, but am in Canada at present moment.

    I have a Blackberry Storm with Verizon and am having the same issues. I’m in Grand Rapids, MI.

    I’m in Canada with Telus – and its still down for me. I was up until 4am trying to figure out what was wrong with my phone – until I heard the radio haha. Hope it’s going to be up and running soon.

    Charleston, SC. ATandT blackberry. Could not receive emails for about 5 hours yesterday (12/16). Today has not been much better — intermittent service since about midnight last night.

    I was down beginning around midnight and came back online around noon…and am now out AGAIN.

    ME, too! I’m out again as well. Was fine for a few hours, but it’s ceased working yet again.

    My mail started to come back about noon est but I had a problem with one of my accounts. After about an hour I stopped getting mail on the one account that was not working. I can, however, send mail.

    Been out since 12midnite 16th in Duluth Ga. Also no Text messages incoming to me either. Tech Support could not say when all will work again. My PC aol/yahoo shows 40+ emails incoming.

    I have been without email all day on my blackberry. I will get 1 email about every 3 to 4 hours and then not another after that for another 3 hours. This is killing me.

    I’m based in RI. I’ve been able to send emails since this afternoon, but still not receiving anything. I suppose that the email que is backed up a bit.

    Down in North Alabama (Huntsville) since 3PM CST…no phone service no email service no text service. Just called TMobile and the Service Rep had no clue about outage until he “looked it up”! He said service outage is from Dallas TX / Memphis TN to the east coast and from Nashville TN south to Jacksonville FL. Absolutely no ETA as to when we can expect service. CRAP!!!

    I am in Mobile, Alabama with T-Mobile…..I have not received emails in probably a month or so….they pushed through about a week ago once but that was it. Now today T-Mobile is also having another network outage…so I have no phone or data….I am so ready to hook Vonage back up!

    I’m in KY with tmobile … My email has been intermitted but now I’m not able to make or receive calls or text … Called customer support and was told it was due to the outage … I can only access internet with my phone right now

    I have AT&T service, and am traveling out of the country. I’m able to use BB Messenger, browse the web, and use data/web applications (like Facebook for BB). I can also send emails.

    But, it’s been about 18 hours since I received any emails.

    with tmobile. no email/data but txt and calls worked. looks like i am back to full strength now.

    I have bb storm… verizon. Haven’t received any emails since this morning, got about 5 in 10 minutes around 12:30 and haven’t gotten any more since. Can send them though..

    NYC Verizon BBerry service is not forwarding emails except sporadically. Esp. annoying since Verizon says to call back on a phone other than the one that is having trouble. And customer service closes at 11 p.m. So thanks for these posts; good to know it’s not just my phone.

    In Fairfield Connecticut with tmobile, n o emails since dec 17th, it is December 21 at 10am. I called tmobile and they noted my account that I had n o emails and said they dont know why or when the outage is in effect or when it is over, and that I will be compensated in my next bill for the days without email service.

    It is affecting Verizon as well. My email is fine, but my data services such as Facebook, are not working.

    In Canada, same problems, email intermittent and today nadda for browsing, Windows Live Messenger, Blackberry Messenger or emails

    No ETR (estimated times for resolution) either *sigh*

    I ACTUALLY JUST STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS TODAY AROUND NOON ITS AFFECTING MY EMAILS ALL WEB APPLICATIONS AND BROWSER I ACTUALLY DONT RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES ON TIME EITHER SO I REALLY HOPE ITS RESOLVED QUICKLY SIMPLY BECAUSE I THINK THAT ANYBODY WHO PURCHASES A BB IS BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THE GO AND NEED IT SO LETS HOPE ITS SOMETHING QUICK

    In nyc and I cannot do anything. It is not just held to emails..My BBM will not work nor will any of my other applications.

    Here in Greer, SC no email, internet or messenger off and on for 3 weeks. On second new curve in 2 weeks. Last outage suspended my service and would not recognize my address. Had to create a whole new one just to get it to work. Created issues for all business contacts. Nightmare!

    I am in Rapid City SD, have 8830 World Edition, been totally out since about 1200 MST, was very sporadic last night. Still out of services as of 2230 MST

    I’m with T-Mobile. I haven’t had internet service all day and I can’t get through to a customer service rep. This is a serious inconvenience.

    IM and internet is not working. I have been down all day today. After the outage a couple of days ago, it did come on. But, now it is out and as been all day. I am with Alltel/verizon from Big Rapids, Mi. I sure would like to have connectivity again!!!

    I found my solution on the blackberry site. Clicked on my email address and re-entered my password and got all my emails.
    1. Click the Email Settings icon either located in the Setup folder or on the BlackBerry smartphone Home screen.
    2. If necessary type your user name and password.
    3. Go to Email Accounts.
    4. Select edit the email account.
    5. Type your password.
    6. Click Save.

    Yes, it’s down – and I am fed up. I have a Crackberry Curve and truthfully, it’s ridiculous. I am paying for this? What is RIM doing with their profits? It’s 5:17 p.m., January 6th.
