Apple iPhone 4G with Toshiba 64GB NAND flash memory

Toshiba has announced the upcoming release of its 64GB NAND flash memory, this is exciting for a number of reason but one is the prospect of a 64GB iPhone 4G. This next-gen smartphone is rumored to be launched in the summer of 2010.

Apple may also use the new 64GB NAND flash memory in its iPod Touch as well. Currently Apple use two 32GB of these flash modules to offer a 64GB version of the iPod Touch, so we may just see a 128GB Touch when they update the range.

According to Engadget, Toshiba is still sampling the new memory device, with an aim at a 2010 Q1 launch. If Apple were to use this in the next iPhone then we can expect up to 1,070 hours of music at 128Kbps and 8.3 hours of 17Mbps HD video playback.

Toshiba is the first company to stick sixteen 32gBit chips to make up a 64GB flash memory module, as well as using 32nm process technology. It is this reason that Apple keeps turning to the consumer electronics and computer maker.
