Windows Mobile 7: Delay Looking Likely

By: Jamie Pert | December 14, 2009 | 1 Comment

Windows Mobile 7 has always looked likely to launch by the second half of 2010, however rumors now suggest that this release date may be pushed back to extremely late 2010.

Most experts believed that we would see Windows Mobile 7 launch in Q3 2010, then perhaps we would see an update in Q4 2010, however according to a recent article posted on ITProPortal the launch of Windows Mobile 7 may not take place until Q4 2010.

During a recent even in London it is thought that Microsoft UK’s mobility chief (Phil Moore) stated that “the operating system wouldn’t be available before the final quarter of 2010″.

Although this date seems likely to have been pushed back Moore also suggested that the OS would definitely be coming in 2010, for more information check out ITProPortal.

    What is wrong with Microsoft?

Whenever Microsoft updates an operating system, it always runs late. Whatever date Microsoft says it will ship, it always ships later.

Tiny companies like Palm can create an entire OS in the time that Microsoft takes to make a minor update to its OS (eg Windows Mobile 6.5 was hardly different to its predecessor, but took years to make).

Microsoft’s competitors don’t have this problem. iPhone updates come out like clockwork. Google releases a new version of Android almost monthly, with more enhancements than Microsoft’s OS has.

From now on I will avoid any phone that’s a Windows Phone. The interface comes from the PocketPC of last century. My next handset will be an Android.
