Seagate Momentus ultra-thin (7mm) Hard Drives: Capacity Details

By: Jamie Pert | December 14, 2009 | Leave a Comment

In a previous post we spoke about Seagate’s new ultra-thin 2.5 inch hard drives, these drive are just 7mm thick, previously their 2.5 inch drives were a minimum of 9.5mm thick, however developments in magnetic data storage allow this thinner form factor.

At the time of our previous article we were unsure exactly what capacities these new drives would be available in, however a recent article posted on HotHardware seems to believe they should be available in 160GB and 250GB capacities.

These new ultra-thin drive will be called the Momentus Thin drives, these will feature a 5400rpm spindle speed and an 8MB cache, they will also feature a 3Gbps SATA interface.

At the moment we still can’t be sure of a release date or pricing, however as Seagate have begun shipping these drives it shouldn’t be too long until more details are revealed, for more details check out HotHardware.
