HTC Nexus One Google Phone: Copying Apple iPhone Rulebook
By: Peter Chubb | December 14, 2009 | Leave a CommentWell, it seems that all those rumors were true that Google were to launch their own phone, as the handset has appeared on the FCC website. The new smartphone is called the Nexus One and is made by Google, but the search engine giant has had a lot of input with its development. However, Google already have a number of obstacles to pass before any hope of success with their very-own branded-phone.
According to a recent PC World report, Google are to market the Nexus One themselves and not through a wireless carrier like so many of their other Android based cell phones. The Google Phone is to be GSM-based, so will work on AT&T and T-Mobile. Verizon were asked first, but turned them down.
Vendors who have backed Google Android in the past might just turn their backs on them. One of the biggest selling Android phones this year is the Verizon Motorola Droid; the two companies could now be looking for a new operating system when the new model is launched.
PC World has made a great observation, stating that Google with its Nexus One may “borrow from the Apple playbook.” We know that HTC has developed the hardware, but Google have given detailed instructions to the cell phone maker. Never before has Google had a cell phone that will have the hardware to match its software.
Google must have looked at all the previous handsets running on its Android OS and thought that its true potential was not being achieved. So the Nexus One is Google’s iPhone, but how will it do in the hands of the consumer?
