Google Nexus-one: Collision course with Verizon and Motorola

There has been a huge amount of buzz concerning recent reports that Google are to launch their own cell phone, which is rumored to be called the Nexus-one. Little is known about the handset, but analysts have already started to fear the worst if Google do go ahead with their own branded smartphone.

They suggest that Google will want to establish themselves as a major force in the smartphone market, but feel that this could jeopardize their relationship with some of its partners. Two of these could be Verizon Wireless and Motorola, who worked with them on the recently launch Droid phone.

It is hard to know what Google are really planning, itproportal.com suspects that the Nexus-one is just a concept and will not be released in January, as many blogs are reporting. We mentioned in a recent post that Google handed a few of these handsets to some of its employees, but maybe they are testing a handset for one of its partners.

We know that the Google phone it made by HTC, so maybe the search engine giant is testing the handset for them just to see how well they have integrated their software before its launch. Making certain that the software runs correctly before launch is a sensible thing to do, but there will always be bugs.

If Google are to launch its own Google-branded phone then they are playing a dangerous game. They have been working for months on a better image; this could wipe out all that hard work in one go.

Do you think a Google-branded phone would jeopardize the relationship with its partners?
