Google Not Denying Twitter Takeover Rumor
By: Peter Chubb | December 11, 2009 | 2 Comments
There have been a number of rumors in recent months suggesting that Google is to purchase Twitter, and you would have thought that the search engine giant would deny these rumors. However, during the European Gang Live’ Mr. Dorsey had been asked what was on everyone’s mind, but those attending the LeWeb 09 in Paris were socked when he did not deny the rumor, instead stating “There have been no announcements.”
He was then asked as to why he did not come out and deny such a rumor, his answer was certainly a strange one, he said, “It [the answer] just came to me.” Both these answers were cryptic and have produced more questions than answers.
As you would expect, the Twitter community has been buzzing since Mr. Dorsey’s answers. It seems that these micro-bloggers are exited about the prospect of Google taking control and using their knowledge of Internet technology to help offer a better service.
According to the Telegraph, when the rumors first surfaced back in May 2009, Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt tried to put an end to the very notion of the search engine owner buying Twitter. Although he did go on to say that the two companies were planning a partnership, which we discussed in a recent post.
So do you think that Google is going to buy Twitter, or are these just stupid rumors?
