Could Nokia Ovi Store Revamp Take on App Store?
By: Peter Chubb | December 11, 2009 | 10 CommentsSince Apple launched its App Store others have been trying to compete, but have yet to come even close to its success. Those who own an iPhone or iPod Touch all know how great the App Store is, but those who own Nokia handset are not so luckily as they use Ovi Store.
Nokia launched their-own application store back in May, but have now decided that the service is in need of a revamp and should be ready by the spring. Nokia hopes that the new look Ovi Store will be able to compete with Apple’s App Store, but Engadget are not so sure.
According to a recent article in the Financial Times, Nokia decided to close a number of its flagship stores in order to concentrate more on its app service. It is no secret that selling apps on handsets is a lucrative business, so Nokia are doing all they can to attract new developers.
Nokia are not the only phone maker to try and concentrate its efforts on closing the gap to Apple and its App Store, Google, Microsoft and RIM are all trying to do the same with their Android, Windows and BlackBerry handsets.
