Sony Alpha A550 DSLR: In-Depth Review Specs and Photos
By: Peter Chubb | December 10, 2009 | Leave a CommentIn recent years Sony has had an interesting approach to DSLR digital cameras and their latest offering, the Alpha A550 is no exception. The Japanese consumer electronics maker had two goals with the release of their latest device, to aim for the existing market as well as breaking into the entry-level market.
DPreview.com have been spending some time with the camera to give us their full review, which is certainly an interesting read. The first obstacle was its price, Sony needed to get this below $900 and they did just that. The entry-level market is one of the hardest to compete in; so getting the features right is most important.
Some camera makers often forget about one of the most important features of a digital camera, and that is its battery. Thankfully Sony have thought about this and given the A550 the larger and longer lasting 11.8Wh FM500H battery.
The main controller on this 14.4 megapixel camera is located on the top left-hand corner and has a range of functions, all designed to give you a better camera experience. Below this control you will see the Menu and Disp buttons, this also allows you to change the view mode while taking photos or viewing images.
As with all products there are pros and cons, the Sony A550 DSLR is no different, but what did dpreview.com think. They were amazed by the overall results, as the camera offered good JPEG dynamic range. However, they did add that the sensor was not given any justice with the JPEG output.
