500 Google Chrome Extensions Will Work on Mac
By: Peter Chubb | December 10, 2009 | Leave a CommentMuch has been said about Google’s latest version of their Chrome browser, the Mac edition that we mentioned about a few days back. Last night, Google held their Chrome Extensions event at Mountain View, and these add-ons have certainly been getting some attention of-late.
A couple of days back Google announced that they had at least 300 extensions available, that number grew to 480 by yesterday and is expected to hit 500 very soon and all will be available for Google Chrome Mac users.
The Washington Post has been explaining how easy a couple of software engineers from the Chrome team made it to design an extension. The pair made a working add-on in front of the audience in five minutes, the extension was not a gimmick either it was a fully working useful one.
The engineers then went on to explain why it is so easy to build an extension for Google Chrome, the same technology is used that any web developer uses, so are familiar with the system.
These extensions are not working on the Mac version just yet, but will be by the end of the week. You will not be able to get them from the beta channel just yet; instead you will have to visit the dev channel here. The full version of Google Mac Chrome is expected in the early part of 2010.
Let us know if you are already using Google Chrome on the Mac, we reported that the browser is faster than Firefox but slower than Safari, do you agree?
