Following on from our report yesterday, which told you about the upcoming Firmware Update for the PS3, it has now been confirmed that this update will be optional, not a mandatory install.

As reported from Eurogamer, PS3 Firmware Update v3.15 will be available from December 17th, and will bring PS3 support for PSP Minis.

Sony has also revealed that the update will add a data transfer feature who those who have upgraded to a Slim console and are getting frustrated moving over game saves and other pieces.

It is worth pointing out though, that the data transfer feature will ‘not’ work for copy-protected saves. More details over at Eurogamer.
