Google Living Stories Project: Ally for the Newspapers
By: Peter Chubb | December 9, 2009 | Leave a CommentThere seems to be no stopping Google at the moment, not only have they launched Goggles and Real Time Search but also Living Stories as well. This new feature from the search engine giant allows them to present news online from partners such as, The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Google has said that if tests prove successful, then they would expand Living Stories to all publishers. In recent years companies have seen Google as a threat, but it is hoped that this will change by collaborating with the newspapers and in time, become their ally.
Google hopes that this and other recent endeavors will help to project a more friendly image, not certain if Microsoft will see it like that. According to The New York Times, Living Stories does what many newspaper website already do, and that is to group news by subject matter.
Those newspaper websites all have something in common, and that is not much traffic or advertising, something that Google would like to change. You can see this latest project by visiting livingstories.googlelabs.com; you will notice that there are no ads there just yet.
If things go how Google plans, then we will see the new feature on publisher sites. Let us know what your thoughts are on this latest project from Google.
