Google Chrome Mac Beta: How it compares to Safari
By: Peter Chubb | December 9, 2009 | Leave a CommentWe have been waiting for some time for Google to release its Chrome browser on the Mac; the search engine giant finally gave Mac users what they wanted yesterday. Google Chrome Mac Beta was made available yesterday and there is one question on our minds, how does it compare to Appleās Safari browser?
The software has been in the development stage since late 2008, so it nice to finally see the browser available for the Mac, but we have to remember that it is still a beta version. Ars Technica has spent some time with Chrome for Mac and were impressed with this new version.
The writer of the hands-on review is like me, totally devoted to Firefox and is very new to Chrome and this certainly comes across in her article. We always know that installing software on a Mac is much quicker and easier than on a Windows PC, and the new Chrome Browser is no exception.
When you first start the beta browser you begin to get a sense of how fast things are, much faster than Firefox in fact, that is an achievement itself. The real challenge comes when you want to type fast in your browser, Safari often has trouble keeping up, but Chrome has no trouble at all.
There are so many great features to Google Chrome Mac Beta, but the one that sticks out is “Omnibox.” If you head over to Ars Technica, they will give you their full hands-on and also explain about that recently mentioned feature.
