Google Chrome for Mac: Pitted Against Firefox and Safari

Buzz This

The release of the beta version Google Chrome for Mac has been a year in the making, but so nice to see it finally here. We already know that the new browser is twice as fast as Firefox, but how does it stack up against Apple’s Safari?

A number of benchtests have been run on four browsers, Chrome for Mac came second behind Safari. To give you an idea of how fast this latest browser is, Computer World decided to pit it against the top four and the results are remarkable.

Google Chrome Mac Beta can render JavaScript 10 times quicker than Opera 10.10 and twice as fast as Firefox 3.6 beta 4, but Safari is still 12 percent faster than Google’s latest offering. This is not a bad first try considering Safari is the staple diet of any Mac computer.

Things have always been different on Windows, as Chrome is known for being the fastest browser out there, even faster than Safari for Windows. Google still have time to improve things and no doubt when the browser comes out of beta it will be the preferred option on Mac computers.

If you have downloaded this latest browser from Google on your Mac, then please let us know your thoughts.
