Google Android’s Poor European Sales: Lack of Handsets Blamed
By: Peter Chubb | December 9, 2009 | 1 CommentSales of Google Android based handsets in Western Europe have increased in recent months, September sales were up slightly but not as high as hoped. It does seem that consumers are finding it hard to embrace Android phones; the main factor is due to the lack of handsets.
However, we have to stress that this will change as Motorola, LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson all plan to launch a number of new handset in 2010. According to Reuters, Sales of Google smartphones rose by 5.4 percent in July to September, this was from 4.2 percent in the quarter before.
To raise awareness like Android needs to, then you need devices, something that both Google and cell phone makers know. We just hope that the future Google Android smartphones will be enough to keep people interested.
There is trouble ahead though, there are a number of rumors that Apple will launch its iPhone 4G in the summer of 2010, if this is the case, then this could certainly slow Android’s momentum.
Motorola has since launched the Milestone, but will sales figures be as healthy as they were in the U.S., when the handset was sold under the name Droid. We have to remember that the Droid did get off to a slow start; will the Milestone be the same?
