Verizon-Based iPhone: Is Apple testing a new iPhone for 2010?
By: Peter Chubb | December 7, 2009 | 1 CommentWe mentioned in a recent post that Apple could be testing a new iPhone device, but there has been little evidence to support these rumors. The rumors first started back in November when Pandav had found usage logs for something that looked like iPhone 3.1, it was only a matter of time before websites picked up on this and started the rumors.
When the iPhone 3GS was in testing, it was known as iPhone 2.1, so it stands to reason that another iPhone is now in testing. There are now many questions being asked, such as if this will be the iPhone 4G and if it will become a Verizon iPhone.
Apple begun testing of the iPhone 3GS 8 months before its release, so rumors of a new iPhone being tested fits in with that. When the first iPhone was being tested it was known as 1.1, the 3G version was only a minor change so was known as 1.2.
When the 3GS was launched it was known as the 2.1 because of the major changes to its hardware, so the reports of 3.1 also suggests major changes. This has led to all kinds of rumors, will it have an OLED screen, will the battery last longer, and will it have a better camera and so on.
The thing is, the iPhone is coming under huge attack by Google Android handsets, and will not be long before they have a bigger market share than the iPhone. Apple knows this and has to act fast before it is too late.
