Analyst on Verizon iPhone in 2010: New phone ‘Unlikely’

Throughout 2009 we have heard a lot of rumors regarding a future Verizon iPhone, this is mainly due to there bing a lot of disgruntled AT&T customers out there.

According to a recent article posted on Wired it seems as if experts are beginning to believe that a deal between the companies in 2010 “would be too complicated to become a reality”.

There are a few reasons why this deal is so complicated, one of these reasons is the fact that both Apple and Verizon offer applications stores, no doubt Apple would want to keep their App Store the market leader, however the iPhone becomes a lot less appealing to Verizon if they cant integrate their V CAST service.

Another reason that a deal may not be likely is due to the cost of the iPhone, currently the iPhone sells on AT&T for around $700, whereas the average RIM device sells on Verizon for around $350.

If you would like to find out more check out Wired’s fully detailed article.

    AT&T sells the 8gig 3G iPhone for $99 w/ 2 yr contract, the 16gig 3G(S) iPhone is $199 w/ 2 yr contract, & the 32gig 3G(S) for $299 w/ 2 year cotract.

Also, Apple & Verizon have been working on developing a wireless network tablet device together.

So, It only makes clear sense that the iPhone will be coming to Verizon. The word is that Verizon will start having the iPhone in the 3rd quarter of 2010.

Where did you hear that the iPhone costs 700 bucks on AT&T? A brand-new 32gb one sells for $299 right now with a two-year contract.

You know, I’ve been hearing these rumors everywhere too. “iPhone is going to Verizon.” This truly doesn’t make sense. Apple would have to go back into development and redo certain aspects of the product to make it compatible with Verizon’s CDMA functionality, for one. For two, what about all the iPhones that are already running on AT&T? It will cost more for both parties. Verizon has done its subtle share of anti-iPhone campaigning and banked it all on the promising new Droid phone. Also, as mentioned in the article, what about the imminent clash between V CAST and Apple’s own App store? Apple and Verizon creating a tablet device (?) has absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone, which will require a MUCH higher demand than a tablet device. Look what it’s done to poor AT&T. It’s no secret that AT&T’s network has been straining under the weight of the mega-popular device. Which makes me wonder, say the rumors magically come true and Verizon DOES acquire the iPhone. What’s to say that Verizon’s network won’t face the same problem?

AT&T has had to rearrange many things to make room for the bandwidth-hungry iPhone. I believe, however, that in time AT&T can and will overcome that.

At this point, if there truly is to be a new network addition for the iPhone, I’d find it far more likely that it would go to GSM-ready, App Store-free T-Mobile before it would try to touch Verizon, which offers far more complications even at a first glance.
