Verizon-iPhone, a match made to be

Verizon-iPhone, a match made to be

The most recent cell phone and cell phone service annual survey is now out and there is nothing in there that we did not expect. 50,000 readers of Consumer Reports were surveyed and 54% of those said that they were satisfied with their cell phone service, with two-thirds of them having a major complaint.

No surprise as to who the top network was, Verizon Wireless. They were rated the top carrier in 26 cities surveyed, scoring an overall 75. T-Mobile came in second, Sprint Nextel third and AT&T bringing up the rear in fourth.

The top cell phone was the Apple iPhone 3GS, followed by the iPhone 3G, HTC Touch Pro, HTC Imagio, Samsung Omnia, MyTouch 3G, and the Nokia N97. It does seem strange that the cell phone carrier who came in fourth has the top scoring cell phone; this does show that a Verizon iPhone would be a match made in heaven.

According to SFGate, in the survey 98 percent of iPhone users said that they were satisfied and would purchase the next iPhone, with 79% saying that they would buy the current iPhone 3GS again. This is a great result for Apple, but not so for AT&T.

Looking at these results we have to wonder why Apple are still dragging their heals and not announcing that there will be a Verizon iPhone. Apple iPhone users want it and so do Verizon customers, so where is it?

I have a theory as to why Verizon & Apple have not gotten together. Right now, AT&T is getting hammered for network & customer service issues, but nobody is blaming Apple for either of those.

But Apple (and probably Verizon) knows that as soon as the iPhone launches on Verizon’s network, suddenly THEIR network performance will drop, leading to more frustrated calls, leading to worse customer service ratings. Apple’s halo gets tarnished.
