PSP Go UMD drive add-on from Logitech

There is no denying that the latest incarnation of Sony’s handheld, the PSP Go is much better than its predecessor but there is still one thing missing. Since its launch, the PlayStation Portable Go has lacked a UMD but there are reports that Logitech are working on a UMD drive add-on.

Engadget have learned from CVG that this much-loved and missed feature is coming but there is no release date or price at this moment. The device will be simple to use, just plug it in to your PSP device and it is ready to go. This will be perfect for those who have trouble downloading games from PSN if they have poor Internet speeds. UMD must be missed, as there are also plans to bring it back with the upcoming PSP-4000, which we mentioned in a recent post.

As with everything, there is always a downside and we can see this one coming a mile off. This extra add-on will undo all the hard work that Sony did and make the PSP Go bulky, just like its predecessor.

CVG have been speaking to Logitech UK and are not aware of any such device, but they did add that it could be something that its US office is working on. CVG are now waiting on word from Sony, let us hope that this becomes a reality.

If the UMD add-on were to be developed by Logitech, then the device would insert into where the PSP Go memory stick goes, the same as some of the hard Disk add-ons did.
