Nintendo Wii: Fastest selling console ever in UK – Fact.

It has been confirmed that the Nintendo Wii is the fastest selling console in the UK in history, beating rivals in Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3. The Wii has now been available for just less than 3 years, with the latest hardware figures confirming Nintendo’s victory.

As reported from Pocket-Lint, a recent study by Chart Track-GfK revealed that the Nintendo Wii has now sold more than 6 million units in the UK – making it the quickest console to achieve the feat.

For those seeking exact dates, Pocket-Lint states that the 6 million units sold figure was actually achieved during last week (ending November 28th), so it will be interesting to see just how far behind the PS3 and Xbox 360 are at the moment.

    It’s popular because it’s inexpensive. Nintendo took a gamecube added motion control and spent no money developing new IP, just rehashes of all their old line-up. This allowed them to come into the market with a low cost point from day one. Coupled with a genius marketing campaign aimed at gullible people thinking “Wii Fit” was an accurate title, no wonder they’ve sold a lot of consoles.
