First Google Chrome OS Netbook will be Acer

Buzz This

Much has been said about the upcoming Google Chrome OS, which should be released on netbooks sometime in 2010. According to PC World, there have been rumors that Acer would be the first computer manufacturer to launch a Google Chrome OS netbook.

This news comes as no surprise as Acer already announced that they wanted to be the first, so it was only a matter of time before this news broke. According to DigiTimes, Acer have been working on its Chrome OS netbook since mid-2009, this was a few months before they launched their dual-boot Windows XP/Google Android netbook.

Speaking of that dual-boot netbook, things have not gone as well as Acer had hoped. Sales of the Acer Aspire One D250-1613 have not been strong, and news of a Google Chrome OS netbook will not help sales either.

We just hope that the Chrome netbook will fair better than the Android netbook did, but early interest looks promising. There have been rumors that Acer could offer a dual-boot chrome OS netbook, but we think that Acer will cut its loses and scrap any future ideas.

Although Acer might be the first manufacturer of a Chrome OS netbook, they are not the only ones interested. Other vendors showing an interest include HP, Toshiba, Lenovo and ASUS.
