Microsoft ‘Black screen of death’: Has it happened to you?

It has been reported that Microsoft are currently investigating continued claims that the recent security update to their Windows software is causing user’s computer screens to fade to black.

As reported from Computer World, the issue has been dubbed the ‘Black screen of death’ and occurs when installed software doesnt run properly, prompting a system crash and resulting in the ever-lasting black screen.

Microsoft is aware of the problem and has issued a statement saying: “Once we complete our investigation, we will provide detailed guidance on how to prevent or address these issues.”

At the moment, we don’t know how many users have been affected by the issue, but it looks like it is pretty widespead.

  2. yes i have had the black screen,put in my back up disks to take it back to when i bought it.

  3. I wonder if Microsoft only tests their software on top of the line PC’s before rolling it out… seems like they should try testing their patches, etc, on lower level (realistic) PCs

    wife’s HP lappy won’t boot, just stays black – is that what others have experienced?

    it’s been problematic for a while, we thought it’d just died so got a Mac instead

    my laptop works in normal more but inly with the graphics drivers disabled, when I enable them “BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH!!!”

    Prevx installation dosen’t work ether!!!

    looking like a roboot then…

    I just did an upgrade to Win7 over Vista it installed fine.
    After doing updates I started having trouble,now it somtimes boots to a total black screen and only the cursor works just seting there blinking…sometimes it will run normally and sometimes it just black screens.
    Prevx installation dosen’t work ether!!!
