iPhone on Verizon Wireless: 2010 rumors, and recap of news

By: Peter Chubb | December 1, 2009 | 10 Comments

One of the most rumored pieces of news towards the end of 2009 is the prospect of a Verizon iPhone. There is so much to talk on this subject that it is hard to know where to start. Let us start with the facts, the iPhone is currently exclusive to AT&T, but their exclusivity deal with Apple ends some time in 2010.

We know that Verizon have been desperate to get the iPhone as they wish to give their customers the best selling smartphone on the market. However, things have not been going their way so thought that they would launch an attack on AT&T with a series of TV ads, which aims to lets AT&T customers know that the 3G coverage they get is not as good as it is on Verizon.

In a recent post, we spoke about an interview with an Apple analyst, saying that Apple should secure a deal with Verizon. It is no secret how popular it was since Apple ended exclusivity with the iPhone in a number of European countries, so it is logical for Apple to do the same in the U.S.

There have been so many rumors that it is often hard to know what to believe, we had heard that Verizon had given up on the iPhone, but we then learned that the preferred cell phone carrier in the U.S. was still interested in the iPhone.

There are two things that we think are stopping a Verizon iPhone, the first is the fact that Verizon do not want to use the App Store and the second is Apple would only get $300 per handset with Verizon compared to $450 with AT&T.

We now know that a new iPhone has already been spotted in field testing, the question is, when will it be launched and which network carrier will be selling the rumored iPhone 4G to its customers?

Who wrote this article? I would advise learning English before becoming a journalist or blogger or whatever (who writes in English.)

I also have been with verizon for as long as I can remember Just get the iphone and stop playing games already. We’ve been waiting and some people are even talking about switching to at&t so what if that happens.

verizon phones suck so much and you guys dont deserve the iphone cause att is better just face it

  • Willy S

Unlike it's predecessor GTE Mobilnet, Verizon has taken the stance that they are the dictator of all. Telling customers what features of a phone they will allow. Personal opinion is Verizon has found a manufacturer in Apple that will not bow to their intimidation. Unless Verizon changes their attitude I fear the only way we will get an Iphone is on AT&T or maybe TMobile. Sad Sad Sad

  • Jayvee

Willy you are correct. That's why they didn't get it in the first pace and their attitude is keeping them from getting it now

  • The Dude

Wow your an idiot Verizon has proven time and time again how much better it is then AT&T. The Droid is the closest any company has ever come to whooping the iphone as far as sales and performance and it only keeps getting better! Like any smart phones they both have ups and downs so don’t be a conjagaloon.

Apple don't want their phone on a good network, like verzon. cause at&t sucks!!!!! How do they claim to have 98 percent of America cover on the tv ads, when the 3g map, only shows about 25 percent covered. They can't count the business and home lines.

  • Jake

They aren’t counting the home line or business lines, AT&T offers cell phone service – meaning 3G, edge, and gsm- with all 3 working together they cover 98% of Americans. At&t is the largest provider of cell phone service. Also verizion will not be getting the iPhone do to the fact AT&T and verizion operate on different technologies. At&t allows calls and Internet browsing at the same time, where as verizion only allows one or the other.(this is not something software can change) iPhones are multitasking phones in which a customer will want to do everything while on a phone call. Verizion may have a somewhat faster 3G speed only because there network is not being overloaded. With new upgrades to towers AT&T will have the superior service and the iPhone.
