Zhu Zhu Pets hard to find in stock, Toys R Us has hamsters

By: Daniel Chubb | November 27, 2009 | 14 Comments

It’s been no secret that Zhu Zhu Pets are this years number one Christmas toy, and following on from worried shoppers finding no Zhu Zhu Pets in stock, we can confirm things are getting better now.

Early today we posted about Zhu Zhu pets being an apt metaphor for our troubled times, and the little hamsters were the talk of people queuing for the Toys R Us Black Friday sales. Now we have a little update on the stock situation.

According to I4U, Toys R Us had tens of thousands of Zhu Zhu Pets in stock for today. While we are sure many have been sold by now, the store is also the only one we know that had stock on Black Friday. Have you bought Zhu Zhu pets today?

The site also reports that thousands of additional Zhu Zhu Pets will be heading to Toys R Us stores over the coming days, through December. Let us know in the comments about the stock levels at your local Toys R Us store.

My Toys R US had 100 in stock at midnight and are scheduled to receive 50 more at 2 pm today! They also said the stock would continue throught Christmas! However, they are keeping them at customer service because people have been fighting over them!

I was lucky enough to get mine today at Toys R’ Us. I had to get there and stand in line at 10:00pm last night waiting for them to open at midnight, but it was worth it.

Knowing that everyone will be all out and get Zhu Zhu pets from local stores like Wallmart and Toy’r us, I went online and purchased a set of Zhu zhu pets and it’s accessory for the girls (http://www.buyzhu.com).

Spent over $40, but it’s worth it :)

actually i have called all the walmarts adn all the targets in columbus georgia and they all have said the same dang thing….Zhu Zhu’s are NOT sold anywhere but online now, they have been declared discontuined by all the retail stores EXCEPT Toys R Us and they only have close to twenty coming in per shipment that even has them. if your lucky enough to be at TRU at say 5 am to wait in line for the doors to open at 7 am just to get in there and be crowded like cattle to a slughter then you might be able to grab one, but i dont think that it is worht the wait and money in gas just to go there everyday for about two weeks until you get a ray of hope just to grab one when if you know what to do then you can get one in a night and it would be cheaper. my sister lives twenty miles from TRU and she went for nine days straight before she got ehr hands on the Mr. Squiggles and he is the TOXIC one. she spent over fifty dollars in gass and bought a buch of fast food for breakfast just to spend 9.99 on this little thing. they are cute yes and worht the wait if you can do it but all together with gass and food she spent about 100 dollars or so…JUST FOR ONE! i spent 35 and got the rare white one chunks and also the yellow one pipsqueak……my secret. EBAY at 2 am. not many people are there adn if you look them up and sort by time ending soonest then you can get lucky and the gass youd waste in going back adn forth you can use half of to pay for shipping. they are worht the wait adn fight cuase they are the cutest but i dont think that you need bother with Walmart or Target any more cause they are NOT going to be having them and unless you want to do black friday over and over again the only way is onlins shopping. The offical Zhu Zhu website is selling them for 50 a peice plus 10 shipping so i would recomend EBAY or Amazon bidding if you can get really lucky and another tip……dont give up. i lost over 80 somehting bids b4 i won these two. at 2 am again and i think thats the best time LOL so good luck adn i hope my advice and story have helped you out in saving a little gass money in the crazy ‘Zhu Zhu Hunt’!

My 5 year old wants one, but I am not about to spend all that time and money to try to get her one, because I know that with everything else that she is getting, she won’t even think about it on Christmas day. I will buy her one after Christmas when there are 100 in the store and still only cost $10. It might sound like I am a bad parent, but I think that I would be a worse parent if I raised a child whose Christmas was ruined just because she didn’t get a robotic hamster. Plus she told the mall Santa that she wanted one, but would be happy with anything that he wants to give her, so I know that she will be okay!

Someone told me that Shopko.com has them in stock. Do you know if that is true?

All of you trying to get a zhu zhu pet and can’t find, this is what you can tell your kids that believe Santa is going to bring one:

“The Elves in the North Pole are having trouble making the Zhu Zhu Pets for 2 reasons: So many kids are asking and they can’t make so many in short period of time and besides that, the little hamsters don’t seem to be work because as soon as they make one, they want to hibernate for the winter – the North Pole is too cold. So maybe let’s wait to get one in the summer when the Zhu Zhu pets are much happier… maybe the Tooth Fairy will do Santa a favor bring you one.”

People, don’t pay $50 for a $10 toy… make your kids imagination work in your favor.

Yes, shopko.com has all of them and the accessories. The hamsters are 11.99 plus 5.95 shipping and handling.

  • Kara

Yes, shopko.com had them in stock today. Not sure if they are still available or not.

  • Brooke

Shopko.com does have the starter house set + one hamster for 29.99! After shipping it was about $40. Better than getting just one hamster for $40 :)
