Wikipedia: 49,000 Contributors Lost, Site in Danger?
By: Jamie Pert | November 26, 2009 | Leave a CommentAccording to a recent article posted on PCPro it seems that a recent study carried out revealed that Wikipedia lost 49,000 contributors during the first quarter of 2009.
The study was carried out by the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, the discovery was found as the the Universidad created software which managed to track who was editing out of the three million active Wikipedia contributors (this checked 10 different languages of the website).
This figure is over 100 times more than the amount of contributers lost in the previous year, and experts are worried that if this pattern repeats this year the site could start deteriorating.
Whether this is a real cause for concern is not yet known, however Wikipedia deny that they are in trouble and released this statement “We’re trying to engage a bit more at the moment with people who are very knowledgeable, people who are experts,”. For more information check out PCPro’s article.
